The Hidden shopping treasure in Adams Morgan .....

While exploring the great Washington DC area I stumbled upon a somewhat hidden away treasure in the Adams Morgan area, best known for its nightlife and bars. The name of this unique second hand/vintage store is ‘SMASH!’ It is known for its punk hardcore indie rock LP’s and vintage clothes. But don’t let the eccentric style of the shop throw you off; it has amazing genres of music from soul, to reggae, to pop, and so many more. If you are some one who enjoys collecting actual old fashion records you would LOVE this place, and they are all very reasonably priced. For example I found a record in the reggae section of Bob Marley

and the Wailers greatest hits for $8.99, what a steal! Music lovers are not the only type of people that this store attracts the variety of vintage clothes and shoes is one of a kind and would have any true fashion lover in a frenzy. The clothes are of all styles from coats, skirts, unique t-shirts, and pants. The shoes have a look of high fashion boots to sassy sling back heels. The stylish accessories range from buttons to sunglasses to purses and much much more. As many styles are recycled and emerge again over time, this store seems to have clothes, accessories and shoes that range from all decades of fashion.

The co-owner of SMASH! seemed so enthusiastic when speaking about her stores history of when and why it was started and the area in which it is located. Daisy Lacy the co owner started off as an employee of the original store, which was located in Georgetown originally. When the original store owner decided to close down the store, Daisy and her co owner felt

the need to keep the first punk rock store in the city alive by continuing to keep the store running, just relocating it to the Adams Morgan area three years ago. This hidden treasure is on 18th street Northwest Washington DC. Don’t leave the city without first stopping by this great shop and picking up a record, some cute shoes, a one of a kind t-shirt, and of course some sunglasses.

BACK TO START THE SCHOOL YEAR FLY!!!!!!!!!!

Well I have been MIA all summer but I'm back.  I swear I start a bunch of projects and then end up not able to fully focus on any of them, but I promise I will put aside time for my blog from now on.  First order of business, it is a recession and it is getting more and more difficult to go buy different articles of clothing each season to keep up with the trends.  So here is the solution accessorize your old clothing!  My first fall hot spot to buy hot accessories is a new boutique in Washington DC Dupont Circle neighborhood, 'Lou Lou'.
This small adorable boutique has an eclectic collection of hats, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, purses, and much much more.  The store attracts the young, the old, and the trendiest of all styles.  The price range is kind of steep for the
typical college student but the one of a kind items are well worth the splurge.  And there are alot of items that are very
reasonably priced.  I love love love this store, and have bought many of sunglasses, head bands and necklaces.  These items could help to bring back to life an old outfit from a past season and
make it more hip and up to date.

There is also some new music to look forward to for the upcoming semester to rock to while you walk across campus.  Some artist to look for are Whitney Houston, Mario, The Clipse, Backstreet Boys, Alexis and Fido, and Pitbull.  Along with looking forward to these upcoming albums, you can also look forward to Maxwell in concert in Washington DC on October 2, 2009.  Check out my facebook page for more new music information (Nia Marshall).

What was going on during March and April

There was a lot of Music, Music, Music and very little shopping due to this crazy recession and the spring school semester worries......

During a visit for the promotion of his new album "New Jack City II" he stopped through WHBC Howard University Radio Station.

Mary Mary performing Easter Monday in VA at The Birchmere me and mom were able to take a quick pic before I had to prepare for the signing of posters and Cd's (I had to do my job LOL). Unbelievable performance!!!

Raphael Saadiq performing at the 9:30 club in DC. My first performance show while working as a Sony College Marketing Rep. It was great I had a ball!!! His cd "The Way I See It" is incredible, a must have!!!! ;)
Now for spender savvy style pampering:
Vision's Hair Studio Inc. is located in the chic heart of Adams Morgan in Washington DC. Not only can you get a great wash, deep condition, set, and blow out for a mere $45 with student discount. But you can also walk in at anytime between 10am-6pm without an appointment and be out in good timing (usually 3hrs).
There is a small alternative second hand clothing store located two doors down (can't remember the name sorry). They even sell accessories and music.
This coming month of May:
I will be visiting stores in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. Some stores that will be visited American Apparel, H&M, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, and many many thrift stores, along with other interesting finds.
There will also be more concerts, and announcements of upcoming music.
Since school is out I will be traveling a lot more to other states for shopping and performances. Stay tuned because New York is like a second home for me during the summer months, and I have a planned trip to Chicago this summer.

February Update

I have been extremely busy promoting my projects and obtaining my new job at a very prestigious company, so I have not had time to do a lot of traveling.  Shopping has been taking place but rushing while shopping has not permitted me the opportunity to snap photos of my escapades.  But I have some up coming plans and events that include music, parties, and yes clothes.  I will have multiple events posted in March, don't give up on my blog. Stay tuned for the latest on being Young Fly and on a Budget ;)

The Beginning

This is the beginning of a soon to be empire of publications combined with my love of travel and shopping and doing new and exciting things, while still living off a college students income. For example great find thrift stores, to the best kept secret underground party scenes. I hope that I get feedback and encouragement from my readers. My plan is to start with this blog and expand to a website, then an online magazine and hopefully on to a printed magazine. Along the way I will post video of my travels to find the trendiest and cheapest spots to shop in all the major cities in the US and eventually the world. Also including the chicest spots to party.

Wish me luck and get on board for the ride.
